Korte beschrijving/Annotatie
An ode to a friendship in which notions of time, space, adulthood, masculinity, and intimacy are spontaneously reconfigured in a playful manner.
Tekst achterflap
First and foremost, ‘Within the Bubble of Surroundings’ is an ode to friendship. Belgian photographer Seppe Vancraywinkel imagines himself and his friends as moving through life inside a bubble that assumes form whenever they are together. In that space, he finds solace and refuge, for the bubble is impervious to the demanding clamour of the outside world. This series of photographs documents spontaneous moments in which both visual and affirmative traces of the bubble can be discerned. As such, it offers insight into an evolving yet firm friendship in which notions of time, space, adulthood, masculinity, and intimacy are intuitively reconfigured in a playful manner.

Biografie
Seppe Vancraywinkel grew up on the countryside in Hoegaarden (BE). He has always been surrounded by his close friends and they were always on the go, they still are. Since 2016 Vancraywinkel felt the need to capture these moments analog in black- and-white. Black and white is an important aspect in his work. It’s his way of creating a filter that shields his dreamlike world from reality. The analogue process is unmissable in Vancraywinkel’s practice. It provides a quick and irreversible way to capture the moments and a slow and careful way to rediscover the images. Vancraywinkel’s work revolves around stories, intimacy and explorations. Vancraywinkel received his Master in Visual Arts – Photography from LUCA School of Arts Brussels in 2021. His work has been exhibited in various group shows such as BredaPhoto (NL), Z33 (BE), Brakke Grond (NL), FOMU (BE), PONTI Space (BE) and S.M.A.K. (BE).
